Once-A-Day

The biggest factor in making OAD successful is milking the right cows.

Our bulls are all ranked using the exclusive LIC OAD Breeding Index, so you can select a team to breed a new generation of cows specifically suited to Once-A-Day milking.

The LIC OAD Index has been updated and it is now a more accurate indicator of OAD performance.

We now have sufficient data from OAD herds to establish a reasonable relationship between OAD & TAD BVs for Fat, Protein, Milk and SC. This allows us to develop conversion equations to estimate OAD BV's for these traits from TAD bv's.

The other traits in BW (Liveweight, Fertility and Residual Survival) will be converted when sufficient data becomes available. Until then TAD BV's for these traits need to be used.

The OAD Index now uses the same economic weightings for each trait as used in BW. Previously the Index had to use a 'desired gains' approach where TAD BV's were subjectively weighted to suit likely OAD requirements.
