Ballance Farm Awards

Globally, the food industry is facing unprecedented scrutiny. What’s in our food, where it’s come from, who manufactures it, and what inputs are involved are just a few of the questions that must be explained to the consumer.

Shoppers commonly read the fine print on packaging while in the supermarket aisle. Quite rightly, manufacturers and suppliers of food products are being taken to task for their actions, and should expect to held to account by both the media and the general public.

New Zealand farmers have built themselves an excellent reputation over the past 100 years. However, increased demand for limited space means practices have greatly intensified over recent years. There is more pressure on both our waterways and our land.

The rural sector has always carried the bulk of the responsibility for New Zealand’s wealth. By positioning our industry as one that is clean and sustainable we are certain our products will continue to command a premium on the world stage.

LIC endorses sustainable farm practices because our country’s environment, reputation, and economic future must be secured over the long-term.

One of the most visible ways LIC can promote this philosophy is by supporting the Ballance Farm Environment Awards.

Our sponsorship of these awards:

  • Celebrates and champions success within the rural sector.
  • Recognises and rewards the work, effort, pride, and expense that many dairy farmers have put in to making their farms sustainable.
  • Reflects our core values (integrity, customer focus, innovation and teamwork). LIC senses these values are common throughout the wider dairy industry, particularly among farmers who care for the environment in which they work, live, and play. Whether we act as individual farmers or as good corporate citizens, these values dictate how we behave.
